As Chief Sustainable Gambling Officer at Playtech, I focus on advancing sustainable gambling practices that integrate player wellbeing with long-term business viability. I oversee BetBuddy, our award-winning AI-driven behavioural analytics platform, while coordinating cross-functional initiatives across our global operations in 20+ regulated markets.
Previously, as Chief Policy Officer, I directed Playtech’s international public affairs, successfully influencing gambling legislation across multiple jurisdictions in Europe and Latin America.
From 2007 to 2016, I served as Italy’s online gambling regulator, developing the first comprehensive regulatory framework for online gambling in Europe. During my tenure, Italy became the world’s second-largest regulated online gambling market.
With over 30 years of experience spanning technology, regulation, and public affairs, I have consistently worked at the intersection of innovation and responsible practice. I engage with policymakers and industry stakeholders globally, having shaped regulatory frameworks and industry standards across numerous markets.
My career progression from early digital transformation roles in the 1990s, through regulatory leadership, to policy advocacy, and now sustainable gambling leadership reflects my commitment to leveraging technology and policy to create positive industry change whilst prioritising consumer protection.
I regularly speak at international conferences and work with academic institutions to advance evidence-based approaches to sustainable gambling practices.

Welcome to IGE
IGE 2025: An edition looking to the future through innovation, sustainability, and new business opportunities!
I’m thrilled to present the second edition of IGE – Italian Gaming Expo & Conference, which this year promises to be more impactful and content-rich than ever before. As before the event, I have had the privilege of observing first-hand how the gaming industry in Italy is transforming. IGE has now become the benchmark for our industry, and the 2025 edition comes at a particularly crucial time, marked by important news.
The regulatory reforms and the liberalisation of licences that have recently been introduced are changing the game, creating fertile ground for new business opportunities. This epochal change represents a moment of reflection and, at the same time, a springboard towards a more open, competitive and responsible sector.
A sustainable and innovative future for gaming
We are striving to build not just a larger sector, but a fully sustainable and innovative one. Italian gaming has to look forward, and sustainability has become an essential element for the industry. However, this concept must be understood in a broad sense: it is not just about reducing environmental impact, but adopting practices that embrace social responsibility and business ethics.
IGE 2025 will be a platform where this dialogue will take place between all players in the industry: from companies to regulators, through politics and institutions. The sustainability challenge concerns all of us. We are creating a space to share ideas and best practices on how to make our industry greener, more responsible, and competitive
An event that inspires and drives the future of the industry
This edition of IGE is not only designed to inform, but to inspire. The aim is to create an event that not only discusses the industry’s challenges and opportunities, but also helps the industry to chart a course towards the future. Our goal is to make Italian gaming not only globally competitive but also a model of sustainable and inclusive innovation.
I am sure that IGE 2025 will be able to provide stimulation and useful tools to all industry professionals and stakeholders. I invite you to participate and contribute with your ideas, experiences and visions to build together the future of gaming in Italy.
Focus on technology and digital transformation
Technological innovation is the driver of change in gaming, and this year we will focus on how technology is redefining the industry. We will talk about artificial intelligence, virtual and augmented reality, cryptocurrencies, NFT and the Metaverse, all of them are already having a significant impact, not only on the gaming experience, but also on business operations and security.
Progress in digital payment systems, big data utilization, privacy, and data protection are central issues. We are seeing how AI can improve the user experience and gaming customisation, but also enhance security and prevent illegal behaviour.
ESG, diversity and inclusion: an ongoing cultural change
Another key point we will address is the impact of ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) policies and the increasing focus on diversity and inclusion.
The gaming industry, like many others, recognizes the importance of fostering an inclusive environment where gender equality and the appreciation of everyone’s skills are normal.
This is not only an ethical imperative, but also a competitive advantage, because the most inclusive companies are those that attract and retain the best talent.
During IGE we will also discuss talent management, security, risk management and data governance. These are topics that companies need to address not only to improve their performance, but also to be in line with the expectations of an increasingly caring and aware society.
IGE 2025 is the event that looks at the future of Italian gaming, exploring how technological innovation, sustainability and inclusion can transform the industry. It is a unique moment to create synergies, face global challenges and build a more responsible, competitive and cutting-edge industry.
Simona Clarizio, Head of IGE 2025

Location
Il Salone delle Fontane
Located in the center of EUR, extends over a surface area of over 2 thousand square meters and is one of the most representative locations in the hospitality panorama of the Capital. An area where it is possible to organize conferences, meetings and exhibitions. The entrance scenically enriched by fountains decorated with mosaics, granite staircases, colonnades and manicured gardens, introduces you to this monumental architectural work designed by the architect Gaetano Minnucci in the early 1940s on the occasion of the Universal Exhibition scheduled for 1942, as an expression of Italian Rationalism, an architectural movement that developed in Italy in the 1920s and 1930s in connection with the International Modern Movement, following the principles of functionalism, which continued in various ways until the 1970s.
A little curiosity: the Salone delle Fontane has become even more famous today after hosting the filming of the movie “The Great Beauty” by director Paolo Sorrentino.
