Code of Ethics and Best Practices of the IGE – Italian Gaming Expo & Conference network
PREAMBLE
ItalianGamingNews.it, as an extension of IGE Magazine and as part of the broader IGE Network, including the Italian Gaming Expo & Conference, hereby adopts this Code of Ethics in order to formally reaffirm its founding principles, moral and social objectives, and its commitment to compliance with the laws and institutions of the Italian Republic and applicable European regulations.
This Code is binding upon all journalists, directors, executives, employees, collaborators, and any individual operating in any capacity on behalf of the IGE Network. All activities shall be conducted with integrity, transparency, independence, and full accountability, in the awareness that any conduct may be subject to public and legal scrutiny.
MISSION
IGE’s mission, in all its editorial and event-related expressions, is to promote informed awareness within the legal gaming sector and among all relevant stakeholders, as well as the general public. IGE undertakes to provide accurate, contextualized, and verifiable information enabling public and private entities, professionals, consumers, and citizens to understand the structural, regulatory, economic, and social aspects of the gaming industry.
Particular emphasis is placed on the dissemination of information related to Responsible Gaming and regulatory compliance.
THE OBJECTIVES
IGE operates in a secular, inclusive environment that respects civil rights and promotes diversity. It rejects any form of discrimination, obscurantism, anti-scientific conduct, political interference, or improper influence.
IGE serves as an independent reference point for operators, regulators, institutions, and stakeholders within the gaming industry, ensuring transparency, factual accuracy, and fairness.
HISTORY AND CORPORATE IDENTITY
Founded in 2009 by independent journalists specializing in gaming law and industry matters, Gn Media established one of Italy’s first sector-focused online publications. The editorial initiative evolved into IGE Magazine, ItalianGamingNews.it, and the Italian Gaming Expo & Conference.
The network developed during the regulatory transition of the Italian gaming sector from illegality (pre-2003) toward full legalization and regulation, contributing to the professionalization and responsible development of the industry under unified leadership.
COMMUNITY AND PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT
IGE promotes conferences, public debates, and professional forums in Italy and internationally to foster ongoing dialogue among journalists, regulators, operators, and institutions. The Italian Gaming Expo & Conference represents the central annual institutional event of the Network.
CREDIBILITY AND TRUST
Credibility constitutes the core asset of IGE’s editorial activity. Trust is pursued through methodological rigor, transparency of process, responsible journalism, and continuous engagement with readers.
JOURNALISTIC COMPLIANCE
In addition to this Code, journalists and contributors are required to comply with the Consolidated Self-Regulatory Code of Italian Journalists issued by the National Order of Journalists, including all incorporated professional charters and ethical codes.
- Charter of Duties of the Journalist;
- Charter of Duties of the Press Office Journalist;
- Charter of Duties for Economic Information; Charter of Florence;
- Charter of Milan;
- Charter of Perugia;
- Charter of Rome;
- Charter of Treviso;
- Information and Advertising Charter;
- Information and Surveys Charter;
- Code of Ethics regarding journalistic activities;
- Code regarding the representation of judicial events in radio and television broadcasts;
- Decalogue of Sports Journalism.
All subjects working for the network accept its rules. This code of ethics is signed by the company’s top management, administration, employees, collaborators, and all those who operate in various capacities in the name and on behalf of IGE.
IGE Values
1. ACCURACY
Our intent is the search for truth. Accurate verification is the priority. What we report must be correct and contextualized. We do not take everything told to us as true, and we do not let ourselves be influenced by our personal beliefs.
2. COMPLETENESS
As far as possible, we tell our stories with completeness and clarity of context. If, for reasons of space or time, we are unable to include all the information at our disposal, the editorial work must be accurate so as not to omit or sacrifice aspects of the story that would distort the truth as we have established it.
3. HONESTY
Those who perform journalistic work with honesty prove they deserve the public’s trust. In our work, we operate with genuineness and transparency. We clearly cite and attribute the sources of our information. We avoid hyperbole and sensationalist hypotheses. We do not use fictional reconstructions. Only on rare occasions—where there are security implications for us or third parties—may we act without declaring our identity. Once the time comes to report the story, we reveal why we did not declare ourselves as journalists. The use of anonymous sources must be limited to the minimum necessary and must be explained.
4. INDEPENDENCE
IGE rejects political influence and corruption: no one can request money or other advantages to perform undue services. To guarantee this, every decision made must be adequately verified and, in any case, verifiable. Conflicts of interest must be reported and are sanctioned. Any potential conflict of interest must be communicated and evaluated together with the newspaper’s management bodies. Editorial decisions are totally independent of any influence.
5. IMPARTIALITY
Those who work at IGE have their own opinions, convictions, and personal beliefs that enrich the environment from which our products are born. But the public deserves a fair, impartial view, uninfluenced by personal points of view. Comment sections are clearly separated and identifiable within the editorial products of IGE and its Publisher.
6. TRANSPARENCY
The credibility of the network also depends on clarity regarding its decision-making and production processes, within the limits of the normal internal dynamics of the workplace. We strive to communicate externally everything that can help explain how we arrived at the final product, especially when our choices were difficult. We make public any relationship with partners or funders who may appear to have an influence on our work.
7. SOCIAL MEDIA
IGE regulates the use of social media with an ethical decalogue that its journalists are required to respect.
8. ACCOUNTABILITY
We take full responsibility for our work and must always be ready to answer for it. Just as we give prominence to our sources, we attribute equal importance to the contributions and criticisms of readers and, as far as possible, we try to respond. Errors are inevitable. When they occur, we correct them immediately.
9. RESPECT
Everyone involved in any role by our journalism deserves respect and consideration. We maintain civil tones and attitudes, both in the exercise of the journalistic function and in the formulation of our content. We listen and seek dialogue, never confrontation. We hold different attitudes and cultures in high regard. We guarantee respect for privacy to all subjects of our journalism.
10. QUALITY
IGE journalism achieves its maximum value when it manages to combine the search for truth with engaging storytelling. We take the utmost care in the correct use of language and audiovisual languages and in the final packaging of our products to ensure that the quality of our product stands out from others. But we do not allow form to prevail over substance, nor for the search for sensationalism to obscure or distort the essence of the informative spirit that guides us.
11. VERIFICATION
IGE is committed to promoting and disseminating these guidelines, updating them regularly, including through dialogue with the public, and ensuring their application. Any infractions—which will be evaluated and sanctioned—can be reported to the following email address: etica@gnmedia.it
Corrections Policy
Our site is committed to correcting errors and imperfections contained in articles. Corrections are highlighted within or at the bottom of the article, specifying the date and time. Letters and requests for clarification are also published.
Fact-checking and Source Verification
There is no difference between print and digital newspapers. IGE applies the rules of the profession to all its content. Every article is subject to verification through the use and consultation of various sources: the most authoritative news agencies, social networks, and information collected by the journalist themselves. Every piece of news must be checked, following a philosophy shared by an editorial group of hundreds of journalists. For Italian justice, there is no difference between print and digital content. For this reason too, IGE’s journalistic work always follows the tracks of State laws.
Anonymous Sources
IGE grants the guarantee of anonymity to sources—identified, considered authoritative, and whose statements have been at least partially verified—who may face judicial or material risks. Anonymous documents are used for the production of articles only when the contents have been verified.
Corporate Structure
IGE transparently informs its readers about the ownership structure and funding sources of the editorial group by which it is published. IGE Magazine and ItalianGamingNews.it are two titles of Gn Media Srl, a publishing company based in Terni (TR), at Corso Tacito 101.
They are funded on the market through advertising sales activities, carried out internally by the group that handles the direct sale of its products and services.
